Ken and Heather Jacobs met on the tennis courts of Inverell when Heather was 16 and Ken was 20. They courted for four years, before marrying on February 13 1954.
They lived and raised their five children in several NSW rural towns before settling in Wauchope where they have resided for the past 50 years.
Ken was a fitter and turner by trade who became a branch manager for a Caterpillar outlet.
His wife, Heather, raised the children and did a lot of charity work.
They’d been living in Wauchope for ten years when Ken’s company wanted to move him, but the couple loved Wauchope so much that they stayed, and Ken went back to being a fitter and turner for Expressway Spares where he worked until he retired.
Heather and Ken celebrated their milestone anniversary last Wednesday, February 13, with a special lunch at Abundance Cafe at Rawdon Island Road in Sancrox near Wauchope.
They were joined by several of their five children, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Their daughter, Alison, says they are both keeping very well and enjoying life.
They live in their original home in Wauchope.
Ken is almost 90 and Heather is 85 and they thoroughly enjoyed their big family celebration lunch.
