“We are currently looking for young girls and women who display the following qualities: dedication to a cause, compassion for others, and a desire for growth and achievement,” said the current Wauchope showgirl, Madeline Dobson.
“The Wauchope Showgirl competition is no longer a competition but an experience that encourages empowered young girls and women to use the proffered platform and become ambassadors for the local community by promoting the growth and legacy of a small town that really is, the heart of the Hastings.
“As the 2018 Wauchope Showgirl, I have enjoyed having the chance to forge connections with local groups, establish a role in the Wauchope Show Society, and contribute to community events.”
In March, Madeline will attend the Zone 1 Final of The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl Competition, hosted by Murwillumbah Show Society.
She’s looking forward to meeting the other finalists and discussing how to better support their communities and ensure their show societies’ legacies.
“I joined the Wauchope Showgirl Competition because I simply wanted to be a part of something that would allow me to enact change in the local community and display to other young girls and women what it means to be a rural ambassador in 2018/2019,” said Madeline.
You do not need to be a country girl or of a rural background to take part.
“Being a showgirl is so much more than wearing a sash, it is about having the ability to present yourself with confidence, to represent all within the local community, and to ensure the longevity of opportunities in one’s community. Most importantly, being a showgirl is fun,” she added.
The competition has places available in both the junior and senior event so any girls interested should phone Debbie on 0409310383, Madeline on 0458722457 or Ann at the showground office on 65853023.
