The Mid North Coast Ford Owners Club, Hastings Old Holden Club and the Mid North Coast Chapter of the Mustang Owners Club NSW came together on last year to host the Mid North Coast Muscle Car Show.
The event at Westport Park on Sunday November 4 attracted car enthusiasts from across New South Wales, from Newcastle and the Hunter Valley to Tamworth, Inverell, Coffs Harbour and the Far North Coast.
Many of the gleaming cars were over 30 years old, some of them are daily drivers and there were, of course, those models which only come out on special Show N Shine days such as this event. Miss Dale of Velvet-Rose’s Pin Up Dressing Room donated entry fees of $35 for the pin-up competition.
An impressive $2000 was raised from the event and presented to the Hastings Support Group of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Bruce Cant accepted the cheque gratefully, adding that their BBQ on the day raised $1300.
“Once again, they have made a very kind donation. It’s a great boost and really encourages us to raise more funds,” he said.
“The money goes directly to keep this free, lifesaving helicopter service going. In 40 years, no-one has ever paid to use this service. However we need more volunteers.
“We had a meeting other night and 10 of us are over 80 and our group needs people who can handle administration, and we need a media person.”
If you want to join, please contact Bruce Cant on 65851613 or Val Mudford on 65864400 or email richard.mcgovern@rescuehelicopter.com.au
One man with a particular appreciation for it is the 2018 president of the Ford club, Glenn Kingston. He had a cerebral haemorrhage and was transported to John Hunter Hospital in the Westpac Helicopter.
“I died, and they put me on life support and saved my life. It’s awesome what they do,” he said.
