13 residents became citizens of our country on Australia Day in Port Macquarie, (Saturday January 26), and there were smiles all round as they came up to the stage to be greeted by the mayor, Peta Pinson, and the Australia Day ambassador, Narelle Campbell, the Antarctic station leader.
Each new citizen was presented with a certificate, a commemorative coin and a native Australian plant, courtesy of the Tacking Point Lions Association.
Christine Wagner came to Australia from Shropshire in England 50 years ago and has finally become a citizen.
“I love the freedom, the laid-back life in Australia,” she said.
Christine lived in Sydney and Adelaide and moved to Port Macquarie ten years ago and loves it, especially her favourite hobby, line-dancing.
