A Taree man has been charged in relation to the possession of alleged child abuse material.

In December 2018, Manning Great Lakes Police District officers were alerted to the alleged online activities of a Taree man.
Following inquiries, officers arrested a 21-year-old man at a business in Taree on Tuesday, January 15.
After his arrest, a search warrant was executed at a home in Taree. Police allege a replica pistol was seized.
Officers also seized handcuffs and multiple NSW Police items such as a leather jacket and insignia badges.
During a subsequent search of the man’s phone, officers allegedly found hundreds of child abuse material items.
The man was taken to Taree Police Station where he was charged with two counts of possessing child abuse material, using a mobile phone to access child abuse material, possessing a prohibited weapon, wearing a police uniform while not being a police officer/ special constable and possessing an unauthorised firearm.
The man was originally granted conditional bail, however he was arrested again on Thursday, January 17 following further examination of his phone.
He was charged with the additional offences of using a child under the age of 14 to make child abuse material and using a child more than the age of 14 to make child abuse material.
