Blokes Notes will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a gala event – including 10 songs for 10 years – in June.
Since that initial idea of a men’s community choir was raised, the group has undertaken three world tours of Wollongong, shared a stage with both the Governor of NSW and Shannon Noll and, importantly, provided blokes of the Hastings with an opportunity to find their voice.
Since their beginnings were discussed over a “few light refreshments”, the Blokes, as they have become known, have done just about everything there is to do in the choral universe.
There have been three trips to the Choirtly Loud choral festival in Wollongong where the Blokes made a huge impression with their uniquely irreverent style.
There have been numerous local workshops with some of Australia’s most influential choral leaders. Performances at the Glasshouse, Christmas tree lighting, Westport Carols and for a crowd of over 2000 at the Ulysses Motor Cycle annual meeting at Wauchope Showground are just some of the highlights.
While one of the Blokes’ favorite haunts has become the delightful Kendall Hall where they perform annually to a packed audience for the Kendall Music Exchange, the Blokes stand proud of their association with the Liberty Domestic and Family Violence Service, said a spokesperson for the group.
“The Blokes donate 100% of funds raised from all performances for the women’s refuge, as well as provide musical encouragement for the walkers during the annual White Ribbon Walk,” the spokesperson said.

“A feature of our anniversary year will be preparation for a gala celebration event on June 20 where the Blokes will showcase 10 songs for 10 years.
“Former Blokes have been invited to renew their association with group to either, relearn all 10 songs (plus others) over the next five months or come to a couple of rehearsals before the event where a couple of selected songs will be rehearsed for a massed sing.
“Newcomers, curious or committed, are also welcome and the only prerequisite is the ability grow hair on your chin if you want to.”

Blokes Notes commences their anniversary year on Thursday, January 31 with weekly celebration rehearsals at the MacAdam Centre from 6.30pm.
