Back after a break over Christmas, 56 crew members went out on the water at MacInherney Park on January 16.
Colin Druery said his journey with Sailability has been a bit different to most people but enjoys the freedom of the water.
“I started coming as a crew member being taken out on the water and after a while I actually decided to become qualified to take other people out,” Colin said.
“The real kick for me is to see the smiles on the faces of the people who go out.
“There is a real freedom when it comes to sailing especially for those who are restricted physically or mentally.”
Currently Sailability Port Macquarie own nine specially designed 303 sailing boats, three rigid inflatable recovery boats, various trailers, life jackets, wheelchairs and slings to ensure everyone is safe and enjoys their time on the water.
Colin said the enjoyment of sailing is something that people of any age can enjoy.
“I have taken people from the age of 6 to 97 out on the water so it really is something that anyone can do,” he said.
“We have lots of students from the special needs units at schools in the area come down and that is really great.
“I am looking forward to another great season of sailing.”
