Jeannette Rainbow who is president of the Wauchope District Historical Society said that since they had to leave their accommodation at Timbertown five years ago, their collection has been housed in the Wauchope Library (thanks to the council’s generosity) and at various members’ properties.
She said one member, who very generously housed a lot of stuff, now, understandably, urgently wants to gain access to his work studio.
“Ideally we would like access to about 20 square metres of storage space in Wauchope or within 5 km of the town for a period of 12 months,” said Mrs Rainbow.
“Even a spare storage container would suffice as one of our members is agreeable to having one on her property. We are actively pursuing long term solutions to our storage needs but we need to relocate these items urgently,” she added.
The material to be stored consists mostly of display cabinets but there are other items such as an old telephone exchange and card files. The Society is also happy to discuss the short-term use of the display cabinets, provided that they will be well looked after.
“The Wauchope community is very appreciative, and supportive, of the role the Society plays in recording, preserving and telling the stories of Wauchope district and its residents, and I feel confident that our plea will not fall on deaf ears especially at this time of year,” Jeannette concluded.
So if you have a bit of suitable storage space that might fill the bill, or a spare storage container, give Jeannette a ring on 0424 226 258 and make one of her Christmas wishes come true.
