The 91-year-old says he is extremely pleased to have his contribution – on bushwalking and writing – included.
Mr Grimmond has published a number of books, most recently on John Oxley’s journey to Port Macquarie. He celebrated his 90th birthday with a walk from Point Plomer to Port Macquarie.
“Recently Seniors Card, and the NSW government in conjunction with the Fellowship of Australian Writers conducted a writing competition for Seniors Card holders,” Mr Grimmond said.
“The theme for this year’s edition was positive ageing.
“There was an overwhelming response and the first 100 entries were published in a book entitled Seniors Stories Vol 4.
“Each 100 winners was invited to a function in the theatre of NSW Parliament House and were presented a copy of the book.”
Mr Grimmond said it was pleasing that of the 100 NSW winners, 17 were from the Port Macquarie-Hastings local government area.
They included, Jean Bennett, Fay Dooley, Kathleen Gaukroger, Ron Lemon, Allan Organ, Colleen Parker, Walter van Hoorn from Port Macquarie and Gilliant Clarke from West Haven, Willsom Cox, Robert Jorgensen, Faye Owen and Loran Shumack from Laurieton, Pam Dures from Wauchope, Connie Jones (deceased) North Haven and Millicent Jones, Kendall.
