A GROUP of students will take action on Friday, November 30 as a part of a nationwide protest on what they believe is the government’s inaction on climate change.

The students from Hastings Secondary College’s Port campus will leave the classroom at 11.30am and march in protest to Cowper MP Luke Hartsuyker’s office.
The movement, School Strike 4 Climate Action, has been inspired by a 15-year-old Swedish student, Greta Thunberg, who started boycotting classes before parliamentary elections in her nation on September 9, and continues to skip school every Friday.
She wants Australian students to find their own voice.
Students in each state capital and across 20 regional Australian centres will walk out of their classrooms on the same day to tell politicians that climate inaction is not good enough.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has been publicly condemned for his negative response to the student protest with the Australian Youth Climate Coalition labelling him as being out of touch and irrational for denying young people a voice.
The prime minister said the students should stay in class.
“Time and time again we’ve seen scientist after scientist stress that climate change is a massive issue,” Hastings Secondary College student Patrick Rudd said.
“Yet, we’re yet to see any real action on climate change.
“The government just backed the building of Adani’s Carmichael coal mine and it’s really frustrating knowing that it will be me and my generation that will have to suffer the consequences of global warming – not Scott Morrison and nearly all of the people making these decisions.”
