Marchant topscored with 51 and took two wickets with the ball as SCAS fell 39 runs short of St Philips Christian College’s 6-196 at Oxley Oval.
Coach James Terrett said things were looking good for SCAS in the run chase when their first wicket fell in the 24th over.
“We were none for about 80, but were probably 20 runs behind where we needed to be at that stage,” he said.
SCAS finished with 9-157 after their allotted overs to be eliminated from the competition in the second round – an improvement on their first round exit 12 months ago.
Ethan Covetz was the best of the SCAS bowlers with three wickets, while Max Mangan also chipped in with one.

A classy half-century from St Philips’ batsman Jamie Larson ultimately proved the difference as it allowed the rest of his team to bat with freedom in the final overs.
Left-handed top order batsman Jack Roberts also proved to be a thorn in the SCAS side.
“They were one down after about 30 overs so they batted pretty well,” Terrett said.
“We didn’t bowl too badly, they just batted well.
“I think they’ll go pretty deep into the competition, they’re a pretty talented side.”
