Everyone is welcome to help make the weekend a success.
- Peter White
The following is from a newspaper cutting, published in 1920.
“Just 12 years after the formation of the NSW Rugby League, local identity Allan Bain freely promoted a charge be made on the Hastings. At the time, football clubs were flourishing in Beechwood, Wauchope, Telegraph Point, Rawdon Island, Hamilton (Hibbard) and Port Macquarie.
“In a decision taken at a meeting at the Commercial Hotel in Port Macquarie on 29th April 1920, it was unanimously agreed by the clubs competing in the Rugby Football Union, to cut away from Union and adopt Rugby League, with the first match to be played later that year between Beechwood and Wauchope at Bain Park, Wauchope.”
There will be a Hastings League game held at the Beechwood Football ground on the Saturday afternoon in June 2019. An organising committee will be formed at the Beechwood Hotel on Monday December 10 at 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome to come along and offer suggestions to make the weekend an outstanding success.
