The CADD pumps, worth $4500, enable oncology patients to receive their chemotherapy medication safely at home, rather than over several hours at the hospital. The specialised recliner, valued at $7,915.25, is fully adjustable and suitable for bariatric patients.
The $12,415.25 gift from the North Coast Trucking Social Club based at Kempsey was possible due to community and sponsor support for the club’s annual truck show at Kempsey Showground last October and the club’s Charity Auction and Dinner Dance in March at Kempsey Macleay RSL Club.
Club treasurer Peter Scott said members were determined to support local cancer patients being cared for at the Mid North Coast Cancer Institute.
“The wife of one of our members was going through cancer treatment at the centre and so is one of our sponsors,” Mr Scott said.
“We wanted to show our support in a very practical way and this donation allowed us to do exactly that.
“The CADD pumps give patients the freedom and the comfort to safely have their medication at home, and the chemotherapy chair is a fully adjustable, comfortable recliner for bariatric patients to sit in while they undergo hours of treatment at the cancer unit.
“Almost all of our members are from Kempsey so we wanted to keep our donation local. The Mid North Coast Cancer Institute allows us to do that in the knowledge we are helping locals who have a cancer diagnosis.”
Nursing Unit Manager Jenny Baroutis said she was grateful to the North Coast Trucking Social Club for its support.
“The wellbeing of our patients is paramount in everything that we do,” Ms Baroutis said.
“The CADD pumps are a wonderful addition, and so too is the bariatric chair, a first for the unit in that it can provide comfort to patients up to 275kg.
“To have the community supporting our efforts is such a privilege and we are very grateful because we know how much of a difference that support makes to our patients.
“We are thankful for the club’s support, and very thankful for everyone who attends their fundraising events to make such a donation possible.”
