Despite the hot conditions, there was an excellent turnout of family groups, all enjoying the chance to learn a bit more about tennis, competitions and the social aspects of the game.
Mr Beard highlighted the inclusion of several touch tennis courts, a first for the area, as an indication of how the club is continually meeting expectations of players with all abilities.
“Touch Tennis is relatively new, is played a compact court, the tennis balls are bigger and softer which all helps enable all players to enjoy the game,” he said.
“You are using all your tennis skills while experiencing less impact on your body.
“This club has plenty of opportunities for people of all experience to enjoy a game, from competition, to social games and coaching from our professional coach Mark Rawlingson.
“We have 280 current members with many more likely to return in the coming weeks.”
Westport Tennis Club is on Woods Street and has four hot shot courts and nine full size courts.
