The emergency service organisation is made up of volunteers who train weekly for call outs but on Sunday, October 29, the group decided to take the opportunity to test a different set of skills.
The core area in which the SES operates is during floods and storms and the unit’s training officer Katie Blake said the exercise was part of routine upskilling.
“On the weekend a number of us went out in a flood boat to maintain our skills,” Ms Blake said.
“It was a great exercise because we went out during high tide so we were able to explore a bit on the North Shore which was helpful.
“It was a chance for us to scout out some of the local area so when we are called to help we know exactly the terrain we will encounter.”
She said the exercise was part of wider training undertaken by members of the local SES unit.
“We are constantly doing regular training sessions because our motto is train hard rescue easy which basically means we prepare for the worst so that we can help when needed,” she said.
