It is a safe, caring environment, which helps people struggling with mental illness to become more social and improve their well-being.
Their annual Christmas Gift Fair at Panthers this weekend is a wonderful chance to buy some great presents, and support a good cause at the same time. It’s on Saturday and Sunday, October 27 and 28.
Studies have shown that clubhouses improve employment outcomes, increase quality of life and wellbeing, reduce rates of hospitalisation and involvement in the criminal justice system.
And the shoppers at Panthers were loving the music from Sing Australia and Z Chords, the dancers from U3A, and the wonderful array of gifts and crafts for sale.
“We love to come every year,” said Naomi Miller from Port Macquarie, who was with her daughter, Lilyarna.
“We like to buy gifts for the teachers. You can get different things you don’t see in the shops. And we love the gingerbread,” she added, with a smile.
Stallholder Doris Scott comes every year, and her daughter, Robyn Whitehead, says her regular customers come along and know exactly what they want.
“It’s a very special fair, for a great cause,” said Robyn.
