The day was coincides with the nationally recognised week and the theme for this year is all about empowering children to feel respected.
The aims to promote the fact children’s views and opinions should be respected and they have the right to express those views freely in all matters affecting the child and the right to be heard.
On Wednesday, students participated in a range of activities chosen by the students which included a scavenger hunt by the year 4 classes and buddy time with the kindergarten and year 5 kids.
In their class groups the students were also given fruit platters to enjoy.
Students Tori McGrath and Zara Lawrence said it had been a fun day at school.
“It is cool that we get to wear different clothes to school today and the fruit kebabs were really yummy,” Tori said.
“To have a whole day to celebrate kids is pretty awesome,” Zara said.
“We are celebrating ourselves but also our friends.”
Kindergarten teacher Kym Condon said the day was about letting the kids decide what fun stuff to do.
“Each year level has decided to do something different and it is great that the year 5 buddies and kindergarten kids are able to get together and do some activities,” Ms Condon said.
“The buddy system works really well and this is just another example of the close friendship the students have made.”
