It’s a big reason why the 6ers and Cricket NSW have created a new social women’s competition to be held in Port Macquarie, at Wood Street, each Sunday beginning this weekend (October 28).
Martin Garoni, Mid North Coast development manager for Cricket NSW, said he hopes to see plenty sign up for the six-week long event.
"We are keen to see any woman who want to give cricket a try to come along on Sunday,” he said.
“The success of the women's Big Bash series has been enormous. This social competition is a great way to introduce new people to the game.
“We are all time-poor these days so the game is only about an hour and a half long, and is a great chance to have a hit of cricket with their friends.”
Garoni said current female players from the region, like the popular Kate Jackson, captain of NSW country, will be assisting.
“We will have people out there coaching and teaching people how to bat and bowl,” he said.
“We supply all the gear so people only have to show up. We will have some of our talented players down to umpire and help, and hopefully lots of women will come down and give cricket a go.
“It's all about having fun with your friends, enjoying the sunshine and a social competition where the women can be front and centre.
“We have quite a number of girls in the junior competitions and we see this as a great opportunity to provide a chance for everyone to play the game we love."
Sign up begins at 3.30pm at the cricket pitches at Wood Street.
