Wauchope posted 190 runs on the scoreboard from their 40 overs at Oxley Oval in Port Macquarie, and Port City was bowled out for 126.
Andrew Murrell did the damage for Wauchope with the swinging ball (4-26) on what players commented was a considerably good wicket at Oxley Oval after recent poor weather.
However it was a miserly start for Wauchope, losing four wickets for just 8 runs against the Magpies formidable opening bowling attack of Brad Badenoch and Adam Broderick.
The middle order needed to dig deep and that they did. While Miller (71) and Morgan-Monk (40) innings were stand-outs, a quickfire 26 from recently selected North Coastal Zone representative Bailey Smith turned the tide.
Smith will play alongside fellow Wauchope and North Coastal Zone representative Darren Bourke in the NSW Country Championships on November 2 to 4, 2018 in Inverell.
Captain Matt Miller said it was a great win to get the season underway.
“Particularly for the young guys,” he said. “Morgan-Monk showed a lot of determination at the crease and Corey Holt bowled sharp to claim a big wicket at a time that Port City appeared to be building a partnership.”
Wauchope have a bye next week.
