Across the nation, year 12 students drew on their knowledge for more than two hours, marking the start of the HSC with an English paper.
Hastings Secondary College students Chloe Wilson and Zack Erdelyi were two of the first out of the hall.
“I thought the question was going to be a lot different than it was based on what we did previously in class,” Chloe.
“I’m happy with how I went and my creative writing fit in really well. All of the study I did definitely helped. It was probably an easier exam than I expected.”
Typically the nerves kicked in as they prepared to enter the exam hall, but at the end of the day they were happy to get it over and done with, with the focus now switching to their next exam.
“I found the study we did helped a lot with the first exam. I didn’t find it too hard but it was a bit of a challenge,” Zack said.
“I was a little nervous but getting early entry to the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Sydney helped settle that.
“It’s definitely set my expectations for the rest of the HSC and has made it a little less nerve-wracking. It’s (completing the first exam) a relief.”
October 19 will deliver the second English paper.
“I think the rest of the HSC is going to be really slow. English will be the easiest for me as I’m doing all three sciences and mathematics,” Chloe said.
“I’m looking forward to my drama exam. We’ve done the practical exam already so now it’s about studying the plays we did and the workshops we undertook,” Zack added.
