Rotary clubs across Australia have swung in behind our farmers who are suffering from the worst and most widespread drought in living memory.
Our Rotary District covers a massive area of drought-ravaged land stretching from the coast to Lightning Ridge.
Rotary Club of Port Macquarie book sale coordinator Bob Cleland said on the Macquarie Coast, we didn’t really get to see just how devastating the drought had become.
“Rotary clubs west of the range do and are implementing numerous programs to help their local farmers survive,” he said.
“Funds are needed to provide even basic needs on many farms and Rotarians are personally assessing individual needs before delivering support.”
The Rotary Club of Port Macquarie has been recycling and selling second hand books for years and in 2018 started selling books on Saturday mornings.
All sales income from the books throughout October will be donated to Rotary’s farmer support programs.
The Rotary book store is located in the Rotary Community Centre, 198 Hastings River Drive, Port Macquarie.
The store is open from 9am to 1pm every Saturday.
Thousands of books are available with nothing over $4.
Cash donations to help our farmers will also be accepted.
For more information call Rotarian Bob Cleland 0438 761 978 or just come along on Saturday mornings.
