Not just for the kids the artistic workshops are a combination of singing, music, painting and creating and are designed to give an appreciation of Aboriginal culture in a fun and exciting way, Ms Robinson said.
“As part of the Cooeee Sista’s Art Workshops I wanted to give back and do some community events for people and what better time than during the school holidays,” Ms Robinson said.
“The workshops are a mixture of me telling stories and teaching people songs in a few Aboriginal languages and then letting people get creative with painting gumnuts and native objects and the other workshop is singing and creating bush animals.
“It is something a little different to your usual school holiday activities but is great for the whole family with parents and kids getting involved.”
Ms Robinson said she ran similar workshops four years ago and had to turn people away and after another successful round of workshops last school holidays decided to try them again.
“I really enjoyed the workshops I put on at SeaAcres four years ago but after that volunteering took up a lot of my time so I wasn’t able to run them for a few years but now I am back and hopefully everyone will come along and have a good time,” she said.
“I ran one workshop earlier in the year in a similar style and it went really well so now I am running three over the school holidays.”
The story telling and painting workshops will be on October 3 and 10 and the creative arts and bush animals workshop will be on October 6 at the Sea Scouts Hall on Buller Street.
“On the Saturday when we are creating bush animals out of natural raffia, fabrics, wool and cotton it is great to see people really getting into making them.
“The whole atmosphere of the workshops is great and it is made even better by my cockatoo Mista Cocky who is always with me.
“He is an attention seeking bird who loves to sing and talk to people and the kids are just in a fit of giggles every time he comes out which is always hilarious.”
The workshops cost $25 per person and bookings are essential. To find our more or to book contact Debbs Robinson on 0434 464 646.
