In a message to Hastings region audiences and advertisers, editor Tracey Fairhurst said the introduction of a local news subscription will allow audiences to choose the way they wanted to support the Port News to continue providing its valued journalism and community information.
“As our audience increasingly reads our local journalism online via their smartphones and tablets, we need to make sure we can continue to deliver the coverage our community expects and deserves,” Mrs Fairhurst said said.

Sales manager Cathie Linklater said it is the next logical step in the evolution of the valued local masthead.
“This is the next step forward as the Port News reinforces its position as your first point of call for local news online. For our readers and advertisers, we promise quality local content at your fingertips at any time of the day,” Mrs Linklater said.
“We have been leading the way in local news for the past 133 years and will continue to do so as our audience and their support grows in the online space.”
