Just ask Cricket NSW Mid North Coast development manager Martin Garoni ahead of yet another summer of cricket.
The Sydney Sixers Beach Blast is set to return to Port Macquarie during the October school holidays.
It will once again bring Australia’s favourite summer sport to the best backyard in the country.
“Sun, sand, surf and throw in a couple of cricket bats and a ball and I think that’s about as close to heaven as you get,” Garoni said.
“You drive up and down the coast on the weekend in summer and there’s always someone out with a cricket bat and a ball.
“It’s fairly synonymous with Australia and especially in New South Wales; the beach and a game of cricket go hand in hand.”
Garoni said the main reason for the program was to talk to people that were not currently involved in the sport.
“It’s a great opportunity to give a taste of our sport to the people who wouldn’t normally be involved,” he said.
“The big part of the reason for these programs is to get out and about early in the season and promote the upcoming opportunities for kids, especially boys and girls.
“So what better way to do it than at the beach?”
A total of 200 spots are available for the day at Town Beach with half of them already filled.
“Register before you turn up,” Garoni said.
“We want everybody to go to the Sydney Sixers website and you’ll see the banner for the Beach Blast to register to get involved.”
$10 will get you a fun day at the beach on October 3.
“You’ll get to meet the players and have some fun activities on the beach and learn a fair bit about safety on the beach from the life saving guys as well.”
