At the Zone Championships, held in Port Macquarie on Tuesday August 14, the girls defeated St Joseph’s Regional 31-12, Saint Columba Anglican School 26-0, John Paul College Coffs Harbour 36-7 and then John Paul College Coffs Harbour again in the final 32-5.
By winning at the Zone Championships, the girls qualified for the Regional Championships which were held in Kempsey on Tuesday September 4.
At the Regional Championships, the girls defeated John Paul College Coffs Harbour 14-5, Bishop Druitt College 31-0, Great Lakes College Forster 34-5 and St Clare’s High School Taree 50-0.
The girls have amassed 254 points for, and had only 34 points scored against them. They have scored 42 tries and kicked 20 conversions.
By winning at the Regional Level, the girls have qualified for the NSW State Championships in Newcastle on Tuesday September 25.
It is the 7th year in a row that the Wauchope Rugby girls have qualified for the State Championships.
“It’s a wonderful effort to a hard-working bunch of young women who have trained hard since March and play very hard,” said coach Matthew Taylor.
“A huge thank you to the Wauchope Lions Club, the Port Macquarie Hastings Mayoral Sporting Fund, the Wauchope High School P&C and the Wauchope High School SRC who have supported the team financially,” he said.
