The dedicated group of youngsters aged 10-17 hail from the Macleay Valley in the north to below Port Macquarie in the south and are a part of the Mid North Coast Youth Orchestra put together by the Mid North Coast Strings Alliance.
Artistic director of the Strings Alliance and conductor of the Mid North Coast Youth Orchestra, Elise Ali, said the group is excited for their upcoming trip.
“Now that it is only a few weeks away the group are beyond excited about the trip to Singapore,” Ms Ali said.
“We only meet twice a term and we have students from across the Mid North Coast come to participate in the Youth Orchestra.
“It is really a chance for them to play in a group and meet like-minded young people who have similar passions.”
The Youth Orchestra was formed so that local young musicians had a chance to have similar opportunities to that of their city counterparts.
“They are a great group of kids who love playing music and the Strings Alliance decided to put this group together so that we could organise special experiences and opportunities like they would get if they lived in a major city,” she said.
“Two years ago we did a tour of Adelaide but this time we are off to Singapore and it will definitely be the trip of a lifetime for the kids.”
The week long trip will include the group having a masterclass with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and a class with one of Symphony’s conductors as well as performing in a special concert with students at an international school.
To get ready for the trip the group will be playing at Westport Primary on Sunday, September 16, from 2.30pm, and the group are inviting the public to get behind them.
“It will be our last rehearsal before we all go away and so we are inviting the Hastings public to come along and listen to the kids play.
“We are asking $10 to come along but all the money will go back into helping us fund the students to go to Singapore.
“If you would like to attend the concert just come along and pay at the door.”
The group of young musicians will leave Australia on September 29 and return to town on October 7.
