Ms Brumfitt, author of Embrace Yourself, director of award-winning documentary Embrace, founder of The Body Image Movement and fiercely passionate champion of women, said she is coming to Port Macquarie on September 24 with the ultimate ‘how-to’ guide to loving your body at every shape and size.
“I am taking my new book on the road in a seven cities in seven days tour stopping in Port Macquarie to talk and inspire women to let go of body guilt and teach them to embrace their bodies,” Ms Brumfitt said.
“We are coming to town in a huge van Priscilla Queen of the Desert style and it is going to be great.
“The event itself is going to be huge. We are having a fashion show, comedian MC and I will be talking with the whole night aimed at promoting body positive messages to women of all ages.”
Ms Brumfitt’s message of body acceptance has never been more important, with new research released by the Butterfly Foundation which suggests more and more women are dissatisfied with their appearance.
“It will be the ultimate girls’ night out and I will be giving ladies of all ages, shapes and sizes practical advice on how to feel confident and free,” she said.
“Generally women are sick of hating their bodies and the guilt associated with that and they want to know how to accept the skin they’re in.
“It is time women stopped punishing their bodies and see them for pleasure.
“One example is having the power to change how we think about exercise, learning to move our bodies because we love them and not because we hate them.
“We will be talking about how we can recognise the body-shaming activities so many of us are guilty of – turning the lights off in the bedroom before getting intimate, avoiding sleeveless tops or being seen in a swimsuit at all costs, calling yourself fat or ugly – and then how to tackle them.”
Ms Brumfitt’s award-winning documentary Embrace has been seen thousands of times around the world and she hopes to continue to help women.
“For me it is about helping women to stop feeling guilty and being able to help them feel empowered to choose to be happy with their body.
“At the beginning of my talk I tell the crowd that if they don’t go away motivated to change them I haven’t done my job.
“On the night there will be a great uplifting positive vibe and it will be just like a huge body positive party.”
