With reports earlier in the week pointing to as much as 40 millimetres of rainfall, that figure has now been scaled back to around 10mm.
Rural Fire Service district officer Stuart Robb says the current forecast of between 5mm to 25mm was welcomed but won't ease conditions over the long term.
"Obviously any rain that falls will ease conditions over the weekend," he said.
"But we are looking at continued dry weather for the remainder of the month.
"Currently, we have seven fires across the Mid-North Coast.
"Everyone is reminded to be vigilant," he said.
However, we should start to see some rain falling on Friday night as a low pressure trough off the coast and a larger low pressure system from the west collide, says meteorologist with weatherzone Kim Westcott.
"When the trough and the low meet up, you will see the start of a few showers across the Mid-North Coast," she said.
"That pattern is likely to see rain falling from Sydney along the coastal fringe to Coffs Harbour.
"There is the chance of a possible storm tonight (Friday) too. You will likely see between 1-5mm of rain tonight."
Saturday will see the showers increasing with the chance of some extended dry periods too.
The trough off the coast is likely to ensure we don't have rain through the entire day, Ms Westcott added.
"There is the chance of a storm but these are more likely to be on the elevated areas as opposed to along the coastline.
"Despite that, you will likely see between 5-10mm of rain falling on Saturday.
"Sunday is probably going to be a more consistently rainy day, with rain falling from the night before and through into the afternoon.
"We should see the showers clearing by Sunday afternoon.
"The forecast suggests we could get 5-10mm or even higher in some areas."
Late Sunday and Monday will see the low pressure system start to strengthen with slightly stronger winds along the coast.
Monday should be clear of rain.
The temperatures for Saturday are 7 to 19 degrees; Sunday 6 to 20 degrees and Monday 4 to 22 degrees.
