Water mains cleaning will be taking place in the areas of Sherwood, Major Innes, The Ruins Way, Brierley Hill, Ascot Park, Lindfield Park Rd and Thrumster St.
The work will be undertaken by Port Macquarie-Hastings Council contractor Suez, from August 20 over a four week period, making use of an innovative technology known as ice pigging.
The cleaning process involves semi-solid ice slurry being pumped into a section of water main, which is then pushed along the pipe using the natural pressure in the network.
As the ice flows through the pipe, it passes over every surface and collects sediment. Ice pigging is a much quicker and more effective way to clean pipes than traditional flushing techniques.
It uses 50 per cent less water and means interruption to water supply for residents is relatively short, with the sediment-laden ice being disposed of responsibly.
In addition, very little flushing of the mains is normally required after ice pigging, with water quality tending to be very good, council says.
Homes impacted by the cleaning can expect minor interruptions to their water supply lasting for around two hours,.
Council will be writing to residents at least 24 hours before the interruption occurs.
During this time residents are advised not to operate any device that uses water, such as dishwashers and washing machines.
Residents who experience discoloured or cloudy water after their interruption period, should run an outside tap until the water runs clear.
