Nakita Binge scored a hat-trick as the Breakers became the first team into the 2018 Group 3 ladies league tag grand final on Sunday.
The three-time minor premiers cruised past Wauchope 22-0 to progress to their third-straight season decider, but the job isn’t done yet.
Roach was satisfied his team had managed to avoid a repeat of last year when they lost the corresponding finals fixture.
They then lost their second game all year two weeks after that when Old Bar held on for a 10-6 grand final victory.
The plan now is to continue to avoid a repeat of last year.
“We’ve already changed from last year because we won straight away and from this point onwards we’re not going into last year,” Roach said.
“Last year is last year and we move on.”
The match was as good as over at half-time when the Breakers held a commanding 18-0 lead.
“We probably played a little more conservative in the second half with field position and things,” Roach said.
“It is sometimes a little dangerous when you take the foot off the pedal, but 18-0 in the first half was perfect.”

The plan for the next fortnight is simply to “enjoy it.”
“That was the message I said to the younger girls in particular,” Roach said.
“There’s nothing quite like grand final day and I’m lucky enough that some will have played (grand finals before), but we will also have some young ones in their first time as well.”
Port City will have the week off and play the winner of the Wauchope-Old Bar fixture.
The coach said there were already plans in place to guard against a flat performance that can sometimes accompany a week off.
“We won’t take the foot off the pedal,” Roach said.
“We’ve already got things in motion to play games next week so we’ll play a game Sunday morning, train as usual and go from there.”

The Breakers commitment and enjoyment from playing every week was one of the key factors in their successful season to date.
So far, they are undefeated.
“They actually love the sport,” Roach said.
“I think deep down when you break it all down, that’s why they’re so successful and it means so much to them.”
