The Warriors finished over the top of an undermanned Tacking Point Thunder Omni to register a 2-1 win that saw them jump back to the top of the table.
Omni took a 1-0 lead the break after Maddi Drewitt opened the scoring, but they were unable to hang onto their lead in the second half.
In the end, it was Emily Brazel’s 13th goal of the season that proved the difference after Heidi Fitzpatrick had levelled the scores.
Warriors captain-coach Michelle Smith put her team’s slow start to the match down to a significant gap between games.
“We were all a bit rusty because we had about three weeks off,” she said.
“We managed to come good in the second half and played a really good passing game.”
Smith admitted her team had to play smarter against their younger opponents.
“We’re not going to run through the defence because we don’t have the bodies to run all day, but we moved the ball around really well.”
Omni team manager Lou Currey said it was a challenging match for her team who had to play a player short due to half their side playing in Taree with their regional league side.
“We had five or six of our top players playing in the regional team down in Taree which meant we played the whole game one short,” she said.
“But that doesn’t detract from Wauchope because they played some good hockey and deserved the win.”
Currey said it was a disappointing result, but she was happy with the overall performance of her side.
“It would have been nice to hold on for a draw, but it wasn’t to be,” she said.
“It was good to see Maddi score because that will do a lot for her confidence.”
