Goals to Anthony Jamieson and Michael Bishop handed Saints a 2-1 victory over Kempsey Saints on Saturday that moved them four points clear of relegation.
Port United’s 3-0 win at Fairmont Gardens ensured Wauchope would exit the Football Mid North Coast Premier League next season.
Camejo admitted the valuable three points had ticked off a goal the club had been working for over the last month.
“We’re safe now from relegation now so that was the target for us over the last couple of weeks,” he said.
“We’ve achieved it a week early which is good and Kempsey are a very tough opposition because they’re looking at a position on the semi-final ladder.”
The Saints coach said he appreciated a text message he received from Wauchope coach Dane Seymour shortly after full-time.
“Dane was kind enough to send us a message congratulating us and we’ve promised that we will support any attempt that they may make to keep the competition to nine teams,” Camejo said.
“We can’t afford to lose teams from the top echelon at this stage.”
The addition of John Goodman to the Saints coaching staff over the last month had seen them show more organisation in defence.
“He basically introduced the team to some of the things they were doing last year and introduced new under-18 players that had not been playing with us,” Camejo said.
“That lifted the team morale and our performance.”

The coach said his team was well led by captain Jamieson and Michael Bishop although Ambrose Humphreys was awarded man of the match.
“Ambrose came in to play for us and was an absolute giant even though he is only five foot seven,” Camejo said.
Saints would look back on their season as “if only” rather than “what if” due to their inability to field the same team in successive weeks.
Camejo admitted that had been their main downfall.
“There has been issues with people being able to attend because our team is laden with young players that still go to school and have school commitments,” he said.
“They have school camps so they miss training or matches so we haven’t really had a settled squad throughout the year.
I don’t think we were ever in the hunt of winning the competition, but I think we were in the hunt for a semi-final spot.

“I don’t think we were ever in the hunt of winning the competition, but I think we were in the hunt for a semi-final spot.
“I think it’s been a season of if only, not what if. If only we had a more stable squad we would have done a lot better.”
