Late on July 29, the Port Macquarie unit was called to provide help escorting the yacht over the bar as a crew member had developed an illness and needed medical attention, said unit commander Greg Davies.
“A yacht in the 2018 Sydney Gold Coast Yacht Race called us to say a crew member had developed an illness and required transport to hospital,” Mr Davies said.
“We sent PM 3.0 out at 10.30pm and assisted the vessel over the bar and to the Port Macquarie Marina where the crew member was then taken to the Port Macquarie Base Hospital for treatment.”
Mr Davies said the yacht was travelling very slowly up the coast and the local Marine Rescue crew were able to safely assist.
“The yacht was slowly making its way up the coast and after getting the yacht back to the Port Macquarie Marina our crew returned to base just after 2am,” he said.
“We take our jobs very seriously and are always ready to respond at a moments notice anytime of the day or night and we are glad in this case everything turned out alright."
