Petrea Spencer, Josh Goldberg and Chloe Eichmann have all been selected in the NSW Combined Catholic Colleges under-15 team.
They will head to Narrabeen Sports Academy to play four games against Combined Independent Schools and Combined High Schools.
After the weekend, a NSW All-Schools side will be picked.
It’s three different scenarios facing the teenagers with Spencer aiming to go one step better and progress to the NSW All-Schools under-15 side.
She fell just short last year.
Eichmann previously made the under-12 All-Schools side in 2015, while it will be Goldberg’s first experience at CCC level.
Spencer played up an age group last year and feels that experience will benefit her this time around in Sydney.
“I think this year I’ve definitely worked on the things that went wrong last year and I’m a much more prepared than I was then,” she said.
“When I competed at this level last year I wasn’t expecting the ability of the other girls (to be as good) and I had a bit of a bad tournament compared to how I usually play.”
Spencer’s team were defeated in the final by CHS 12 months ago.
“I think we need to work as a team more; we lost in the finals but the majority of the team made All-Schools last year so hopefully we might make it this year,” she said.
“I think this year I’ll hopefully have a good run at it and maybe come off in the team.”
Eichmann usually plays in the same touch football team as Spencer for Port Macquarie at State Cup level, so their combination will be useful this weekend.
“All the coaching I’ve had has helped with my individual skills,” Eichmann said.
The fifteen-year-old said a minimal amount of preparation could harm the team’s cause, but she was hopeful of performing well individually.
“I’ll use my skills and what I know to the best of my ability,” she said.
“We haven’t trained for very long so I will have to do what I do well and contribute to the team in the ways I can.”
Fourteen-year-old Goldberg will look to use his “talk” on the field to give himself the best chance of making the step to the All-Schools team.
“I think I got in the team because of my talk mainly in defence,” he said.
“If you talk, you can tell your players outside you what to do to get better.”
He doesn’t have any expectations from the weekend.
“I’m happy either way; if I do make the next level it will be great, but whatever happens, happens,” he said.
“Hopefully it improves everything on my game in attack, defence and talking.”
