The world’s biggest travel and restaurant company, Trip Advisor, has revealed its top 10 list of burger joints in Australia and on it is Matt Conway’s brainchild The Burger Rebellion, which has been operating on Clarence Street for three years.
“I was surprised when I found out. And delighted,” he said.
“It’s a huge thing given we have no influence on it. It’s other peoples judgement so it shows we are doing something right.
“We focus on consistency and nailing it from the start, making sure we are 100 per cent behind keeping a consistent product and service. It all comes down to staff, training and having a happy and healthy team.”
Mr Conway said constant analysis of what is going wrong and right, and refining that, is crucial to a businesses success.
“We are still making changes three years on. You have to create an environment where not only your customers want to be there but your staff want to show up to work and be happy,” he said.
“As far as reviews and stuff like that, I don’t think it’s something worth promoting. It should happen organically. We didn’t even set up our online profile for Trip Advisor, a customer did.”
Given the slower winter months, the achievement is a big boost for not only Mr Conway’s restaurant, but for others businesses as well.
“There are new joints popping up around Port Macquarie all the time. The place is going crazy,” he said.
“In the three years we’ve been operating there have been seven new eateries open. (It means) you really have to be on top of your game and be 100 per cent happy with your product and your staff. It never stops.”
