The Port Macquarie-Hastings resident won the Miss Photogenic section of the 2018 Miss Teen Australia competition in Townville.
Winning the Port Macquarie junior heat on March 24, 2018 and qualifying for the national competition after placing in the NSW competition, Montana said she was just thrilled to have gone to Townsville at all.
“In the beginning I went in to the competition and thought why not give it a go – what do I have to lose? But as I kept going through to the next round I wanted to show people that anyone can give it a go,” Montana said.
“Along the way everyone has been so nice and welcoming and I have now formed a great bond with girls all over the country.
“When we were in Townsville we were all put together and isolated from our family so we all became close and there for each other when we were nervous or worried.
“Townsville was pretty full on with rehearsals and events on for the full four days we were there.”
Drew Miante another Port Macquarie local also was selected to go to Townsville and compete in the senior division.
After taking out the NSW crown back in April, Montana said she was overwhelmed by the whole situation and couldn’t wait to compete on a national stage.
“It feels really cool to be able to say I am the NSW Junior Miss Teen Australia winner and I don’t think it has sunk in yet,” Montana said.
“It was a really great night, first in Port Macquarie and then in Sydney and everyone I met was so lovely and nice.”
Since coming back a winner in Townsville she said she hopes to be a role model for young girls.
“I hope that I can show younger girls that they should just give it a go and see what happens.
“I have definitely grown in confidence and through this experience I was able to see what a career in modeling would look like.
“But of course school comes first and then the rest can come after.”
The Port Macquarie heat was organised by Victoria’s Modelling Agency’s Vicki Carnes and Mandy Davidson from Maverique Events. Panthers Port Macquarie was a major sponsor at the local level.
