With a strong wind blowing down the ground, all teams had difficulty with the high ball. With the Dragons being joint leaders of the competition, it was always going to be a battle for the Shamrocks. However, their defence improved on the past disappointing effort.
Players to stand out in this were Mitch Karbowiak, Luke Flanagan, Orry Berry, Chris Hudson, Jimmy Bright, while from the bench Jayden Boxhall and Clinton Gibbs were good value.
In attack Chris Hudson, Clinton Gibbs, Luke Flanagan with Stan Chatfield making several busting runs. Under the high ball with a strong wind Dave Knox only mishandled one in defence while linking up with the back line on several occasions to threaten the opposition defence.
From the centre, official Luke Flanagan was awarded two points in the loosing side. Shamrock’s supporter’s points were Stan Chatfield three, Dave Knox two and Jayden Boxhall and Luke Flanagan one each. Luke Flanagan was awarded the Player’s player.
Going down 22 points to 8, and with South West Rocks defeating Laurieton, the Shamrocks must now rely on a win against Laurieton at home next week, or results in the last round for a place in the semis.
With Jake Flanagan returning from leave and several utility players recovered from injuries, hopes are high.
As a special event, a ladies 13-a-side tackle match between Lower Macleay Magpies and Beechwood Shamrocks will commence at 1:30pm on the day. Entertainment for children is provided with a jumping castle, provided by Port Macquarie Party Castles.
