Ambrose was a local painter who died 25 years ago.
To celebrate the milestone, art lover and Port Macquarie local David Martin, decided to uncover some information about the artist’s life.
A signwriter by trade, Carr’s family home and workshop were in Murray Street, beside the driveway into the Port Central carpark.
“Ambrose left a legacy of hundreds of amazing artworks that ranged from local history to beautiful Australian landscapes and rural and other general Australiana,” Mr Martin said.
“His art exhibitions generated thousands of dollars for local charities and I thought it would be important to make sure that no one forgot this great artist.
“His exhibitions, sponsored by the Rotary Club generated thousands of dollars for local charities.
“When I did a search for him on the internet nothing came up and so I wanted to ensure he would not become a forgotten part of our local history.”
Mr Martin said as a history buff, the exhibition is not just for lovers of art.
“Through this process I wrote a biography of the man which encompasses a number of his art works as well as a retelling of his life,” he said.
“I worked with his wife Helen and together I think we have made something really special.
“Helen has also decided to make available some more of her late husband's remaining oil paintings and watercolours for sale.
“This represents a rare opportunity for attendees to examine never-before-seen artworks and consider purchasing an Ambrose Carr original - part of the history of a local legend.”
The exhibition will take place at Port Macquarie Public School.
“There is a mural at Port Macquarie Public School done by Ambrose so I though it would be fitting to hold the exhibition there to include that work in as well.
“The exhibition is also the book launch for the book I have written about him called ‘Not a Moment to Lose’ which will also be available to purchase.”
The exhibition will take place on July 7 from 1-5pm, with the official book launch at 2pm with a $2 entry fee which will be donated in the form of books back to Port Macquarie Public School.
