In the contest that saw the higher-ranked Taipans expected to win, the Woodcutters emerged with a valuable 2-all result.
Both sides were forced to defend the other teams’ sustained attacks before the Woodcutters scored first through striker Brock Birmingham who while being in his debut season of hockey is having a great time and developing his skills.
The first half then saw possession go back and forth between the teams.
The Taipans equalised following a sustained attack that found a spare player in the circle.
Halftime saw Wauchope coach Colin Pursehouse re-energise the team.
With a renewed structure and fire in their bellies, the Woodcutters drove again into attack and managed to get a short corner.
Captain Jade Millward had a straight shot from the top of the circle to take the lead for the second time in the game.
Once again the Camden Haven Taipans came back with a great cross from their captain Shae Bradford to one of the strikers for a deflection.
With just two minutes left on the clock and the ball back to halfway, the Woodcutters put the pressure on with strikers Amy Winterton and Brock Birmingham combining to nearly score not one but twice.
Player of the week went to captain Jade Millward who scored a goal and controlled the ball through the midfield and distributed the ball to keep the opposition on their toes.
Saturday morning then saw the rest of our junior teams take the field for their eighth game of the season starting off with the under-nine Pioneers.
The Pioneers this season sees a lot of new blood within the team – more than half their players only picked up a hockey stick eight weeks ago.
Coming up against the Camden Haven Fierce Snakes the kid’s love of the game was evident in their play at the ball, with everyone having a go.
The Pioneers scored first via a great run from Emma Gardoll, with the Fierce Snakes quickly retaliating with a goal of their own.
The match was intense throughout with both teams having equal control of the ball, Wauchope managed to sneak another goal in the net by player Lucas Hinshelwood before the end of the game.
Coach Alyssa Slattery’s focus with her team is to encourage the kids to have fun whilst teaching them basic skills of hockey and this week was really proud of the kids and their game.
The under-nine player of the week went to Emma Gardoll.
