With both boxers aged 30, Brock and Skye wish they had taken up the sport in their teens.
"I started boxing about four years ago while Brock has been on again and off again with his boxing for a bit longer," Skye said.
"My father, Kevin Major, was an amateur boxer who had two or three bouts in New Zealand. He taught me the discipline required to be involved in boxing.
"Sadly, he passed away almost six years ago. I think he would be proud of me and I think about him prior to every bout.
"Boxing is a tough disciplined sport; when you climb into the ring you are the only person there and you rely on all the hard work and preparation you trained for in the lead up to each fight.
"It is a big, mental game."
The pair initially met each other through boxing out of the Port Macquarie Boxing Club but moved to the Wauchope Boxing Club about 12 months ago.
That decision has proven a masterstroke with the pair saying Thurtell has really challenged their abilities and skills.
Dave's got a real hard love technique and training style about him and that really works well for us both.

"Dave's got a real hard love technique and training style about him and that really works well for us both," Brock said.
"There has to be that trust involved between a boxer and trainer. It is not worth having things sugar-coated and we have that with Dave."
"Not everyone understands or appreciates the real science that goes into boxing, there is a lot more that goes into it then just two people throwing punches".
Brock and Skye train on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights while the remaining days are used to concentrate on running and sparring.
Both boxers will be competing in the 60 to 64kg category on June 23.
And they are both looking forward to the motivation that the home crowd support brings.
"You really don't want to let anyone down, When you see everyone dressed in Wauchope colours and cheering you on it is a surreal feeling," Skye said.
"It certainly gets the adrenalin going walking out In font of your home crowd."
Wauchope Boxing Club's Fight Night is at the Wauchope RSL Club on June 23. Doors open at 6pm.
General admission tickets are adults, $25 and under 18s, $15.
