That was one of the main issues raised in the responses from residents to the survey, according to the Northside Progress Association.
Association secretary Narelle Milligan said the return of free ferry services has been raised with Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
"The results from the survey showed overwhelming support for a return to free ferry services," Mrs Milligan said.
"And that has been relayed to council.
"Council has taken that onboard and has agreed to write to Roads and Maritime Service about the matter."
The secretary said it had been a number of years since a survey has been completed on the North Shore.
The surveys were forwarded to some 300 homes. There were 141 responses.
Other issues raised in the survey included the ferry schedule and payment systems, a boat ramp, speeding, roads and drainage.
The narrow access onto and off the Hibbard Ferry was another major concern for residents along with speeding.
Association president Carla McKern said the association was continuing to raise all issues with Port Macquarie-Hastings Council.
"We have also raised with council the subject of extended hours for the Hibbard Ferry," Mrs McKern said.
The North Shore has grown quite a lot and the ferry service operation hours have not been reviewed for a number of years.

"The North Shore has grown quite a lot and the ferry service operation hours have not been reviewed for a number of years.
"Coupled with that, we are also looking again at the methods of payment, which was also reasonably high on people's minds in the survey."
Mrs McKern said the survey enabled residents to tell the association - and council - what their priorities were for the North Shore's future.
"The respondents were mostly pleased to have a voice for the future of this community," she added.
The association will also continue to apply for state government grants for the numerous communtiy projects already identified for the community.
Council has undertaken several works on the North Shore in recent weeks including the grading of the North Wall Road, repairing either side of Limeburners Creek Bridge and clearing of roadside verges.
"The residents believe these issues are important to them," Mrs McKern said.
