Just like his dad’s birth in 1993, Dallas adds another generation to a close knit, Port Macquarie family.

Beverly Atkinson at the head of the family is now a great, great grandmother – or 3G for short – and said she is so blessed to have her first great great grandchild.

“We are a family so filled with love, it is just so lovely for me to be able to meet my first great great grandchild,” Beverly said.

“I remember when Sam was born and to be able to see his son born is remarkable.”

For Beverly, Sam marked the first of 20 grandchildren and Sam’s son is the first great grandchild.

Grandma, Sheree Minturn, said it was a special moment to be able to have five generations of the family together again.

“When I had Sam it was lovely to be able to share a moment in history with my family – my mum, grandma, great grandma and great great grandma – and for him to be able to recreate that, is just so special,” Sheree said.

“I moved to Port Macquarie in the early 1990s, got married and started a family, and since then all the family moved here over the years.

“We are a very close-knit family; we do everything together, we all go to church together every week but we are always meeting for coffee and to hang out with each other.”

Dad to Dallas, Sam said the bond the family has is very special.

“Our immediate family is one thing, but then because we are always doing things together inevitably more people come and are invited into the family, and before you know it we have a huge group of people together for a meal,” Sam said.

“I think that is just the kind of family we are, always inviting more people to join, and from the first moment Dallas’ mum, Kirsty came and met the family she was just one of us.”

He said the one thing that sets his family apart is they don’t let conflict build up.

“We are a very open, loud, group of people, obviously we have disagreements but we don’t let it get the better of us,” he said.

“Everyone has their own opinions but above all, we love each other and that is what matters most of all.

“Everything else can be worked out.”

Kirsty said she is overjoyed that Dallas will have two large families who will be able to shower him in love.

“For Dallas and I, we are so blessed that Sam’s family have welcomed us in with open arms,” Kirsty said.

“As a new mother I have no need for google, if I have a question, between the family there is certainly someone I can talk to.

“For some people they don’t have the best relationship with their in-laws, but I am so lucky that is not the case with me.

“I can’t think of a more loving and inclusive group of people for Dallas to look up to.”

Lynne Popplewell – or GG – said the world is the oyster for Dallas.

“As a family we all love to talk and love to love so we are all just glad Dallas is here and with us,” Lynne said.

“I think for us, we are so proud that we will see Dallas grow up to do anything he wants and we will do everything we can to love and support him.”
