Beric Henderson from Ultragrafik Fine Art Gallery said the Journey Into Imagination exhibition officially opened on Saturday.
"We had about 30 people at the opening," he said.
"This exhibition was on the drawing board for about a month before we realised it would be a well-timed satellite event in association with Art Walk.
"The reaction has been, so far, very good. After opening on Thursday, we have seen a constant stream of visitors through the gallery."
The exhibition is about a journey into the mind. There is a lot of work inspired by dreams and the subconscience, Mr Henderson said.
With 20 pieces forming the main bulk of the exhibit, there is a further 20 pieces on display in the gallery.
Five artists have contributed, including Elva Henderson, Beric Henderson, John Scott, Sumei Chew and David Brooker.
Mediums include, oil on canvas, pencil on paper, and acrylic on canvas while styles cover abstract, surreal and, in general, imaginative art.
Journey Into Imagination continues until May 11.
The gallery is best accessed from the Hay Street Street of the Colonial Arcade.
Meanwhile Mr Henderson has one of his works, Terra Nova, shortlisted for the Mandorla Religious Art Prize. The national prize includes a total prize pool of $42,000 with a first prize of $25,000. The exhibition of national finalists will be at Turner Galleries in Perth June 1-30.
Three of the artists from the Journey Into Imagination exhibition, Beric Henderson, Elva Henderson and Sumei Chew will also have work on display at the Bicentenary exhibition Gaolhouse to Glasshouse staged by the Hastings Valley Fine Art Society at the Glasshouse from May 12 to July 8.
