The Northside Progress Association hosted the event at the historic Coal Wharf.
The day included a tour of the railway track near the site, photo displays and talks on the history of the area.
Association president Carla McKern said the day was designed to share information on the area's history.
"The tour of the Coal Wharf and the photo boards along with the sharing of information was of interest to those you attended the event," she said.
"We think we can now build on this - our first event during Heritage Week - and make it bigger and better for next year.
"Part of the discussion on Sunday centred on the fact that we are completely left out of the loop (in the history of settlement)."
Mrs McKern said the North Shore was an integral part of the history of Port Macquarie early settlement days.
It has never been celebrated that the north retaining was constructed to better facilitate safe entrance to the harbour.

"It has never been celebrated that the north retaining was constructed to better facilitate safe entrance to the harbour," she said.
"When (John) Oxley scouted Port Macquarie he thought this was a safe harbour. But that was not the case and the bar made it quite treacherous.
"To facilitate better entry, the southern breakwall was built first. This was followed by the north breakwall as far as Pilots Beach. It was later extended to what it is today."
The chamber president said the North Shore was prominent for the success of the early settlement days.
She said the North Shore fed the settlement 'back in the day', stored coal deposits and also stored firearms and ammunitions.
"There are still several historic landmarks on the North Shore pertaining to Port Macquarie early history," she added.
Meanwhile the association is continuing to source funding for various projects on the North Shore. These projects include further improvements to Coal Wharf Reserve and other reserve areas.
Mrs McKern praised the efforts of association secretary Narelle Milligan who was the driving force behind Sunday's event.
