That involved sourcing funding, finding an appropriate site and identifying community members keen to be involved.
Port Macquarie-Hastings Council initiated the garden.
Volunteers through the Port Macquarie Community Gardens now manage the community garden off Central Road.
One of the first projects involved youth painting a shipping container to be used for storage.
Men’s shed members built the raised garden beds.
Other infrastructure, including a covered kitchen and seating area, propagation shed and pizza oven went in, and the garden flourished.
The Lost Plot is about to celebrate its fourth birthday with a party on April 21.
The celebrations from 11am will include a community picnic, pizza making competition, children’s games, quizzes and a gardening workshop.
Marketing and events officer Denis Juelicher said the garden would continue to evolve in the future even more into a really vibrant community space.
“The garden, even though on the surface it’s all about growing food, has a really important community connection aspect,” she said.
Sustainability Made Easy workshops, backed by grant funds, brought an influx of members into the garden.
Ms Juelicher said membership had exceeded expectations for this financial year with more than 130 members.
