He used the very same experiments to urge viewers to buy Cadbury chocolate – his catch cry being “a glass and a half of full cream dairy milk in every 200g block”. He touted the brand in the hope his mind-blowing demonstrations would inspire the next generation of scientists.
Professor Sumner-Miller often quoted an adage of his mentor Albert Einstein: “If you don’t learn something new every day, it is a wasted day”. I thought of my late friend this week when I visited my travel agent. There had been a mix up in my flight booking back from Europe. Despite years travelling the world, this error slipped through. So, what did I learn?
The travel agent had booked all the flights through Etihad and their co-share airlines, including Virgin Australia and Lufthansa. So it was a relatively simple task to change the leg from Barcelona to Sydney and on to Port Macquarie.
Had I booked the flights myself I would have been out of pocket by many hundreds of dollars. There is yet another advantage of booking through a travel agent. When you book via Etihad, you check in your suitcases with Virgin Australia in Port and, when you get to your destination, it will be circling on the carousel ready for you to pick it up. The same happens with Emirates/Qantas Link. It saves the weary traveller after anything from 28 to 42 hours of flight time.
Something my travel agent learnt, thanks to my booking, was where in the world Billund Airport is. Neither of us had the faintest idea about it. In fact, it was specially built for tourists visiting Denmark’s Legoland.
It is about the size or our airport but has international status. As I now have a new grandson living nearby, I suspect I will be getting to know it quite well!
