The love of country music brings them together, but there’s more to these folks than making sweet tunes.
Now in its 41st year, the Hastings Country Music Association raises over $40,000 to support local causes every year. That’s an incredible amount for a group that is run entirely by volunteers.
There are events held every month, but this weekend’s roundup is the highlight of the year. The audience, as well as performers, come from far and wide, from Wingham to Nambucca, Manning Point and Kempsey, the event draws a great crowd.
Friday night will be a lively affair, a chance for friends to catch-up and enjoy talented local acts. There’s a great line-up for Saturday night and of course, Sunday’s Talent Quest.
All of them do this for the love of helping others
- Mark Conway, Hastings Country Music Association
Barry Anderson from Comboyne, otherwise known as the “Hank Williams of Australia”, will be performing on Friday. Lynne Paine from Harrington will also be up on stage.
The Hastings group has a great reputation for helping others, last year they held a special concert to support the wildlife charity, FAWNA.
They support all sorts of community groups that submit applications to them. The Girl Guides, Westpac Helicopters, Bundaleer Nursing Home and the Port Macquarie Base Hospital are just a few to benefit from the club’s generosity.
Publicity officer for the group, Mark Conway is someone who spent his early years in hospital before an act of kindness changed his life, Mark knows how important it is to help people who need it.
Since the age of 13, he has been raising money for charity but Mark’s emphatic that this is a team effort.
He says “I cannot say enough praise for the people I work with, ALL of them do it for the love of helping others.”
There’s a huge amount of support from local businesses too. Over 63 business have helped this event by offering prizes and sponsorship.
The Wauchope RSL plays a big part. Foregoing their venue hire fee means that every cent raised can go straight into helping local causes.
Any Charity/Non funded organisation who would some help in some fundraising, write to, The Secretary, Hastings Country Music Assc; PO Box 346, Wauchope 2446. Or attend one their meetings, the 2nd Sunday each month at 10 at the Wauchope RSL.
