Raising money and awareness for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and the vital work they do rescuing and transporting critically sick or injured people to hospital, these leaders have signed on for the jump of a lifetime.
Westpac Rescue Helicopter community liaison officer, Richard McGovern, said that funds are always needed to support the vital work the helicopter does on the Mid North Coast.
“The Westpac Rescue Helicopter costs about $4000 an hour to run and in the last year, on average, transports around five critical patients in and out of the Mid North Coast every week,” Mr McGovern said.
“For people to use the service it is free which is why events like the Leap for Life are so important because it means members of the community are raising awareness for what we do.
“Over the next 13 weeks, leaders in the community will be out raising money and awareness for our service and highlighting why the service is so important.”
The launch of the 2018 Leap for Life was held on February 23 with many of the jumpers gathering to meet and to come together for the first time before the jump in June, said Mr McGovern.

“Today was all about acknowledging the work that our leaders will be doing over the next 13 weeks and really starting the campaign so people in the community know what is going on and how to support them,” he said.
“From today people in the community will see our leaders out and about raising funds and talking about the vital work the Westpac Rescue Helicopter does.
“One of the big things we are trying to get across is that we are the community’s helicopter, and all funds that are raised locally for the Leap for Life, will stay on the Mid North Coast and go directly to helping the helicopter in the local area run its missions.”
As part of the 13 week campaign, all the leaders have set up gofundraise pages for people to donate to and will be out campaigning to raise as much awareness as they can before the big Leap for Life jump on June 1.
