Hosted by the Climate Change Australia – Hastings Branch the lecture was well attended after capturing the interest of the local community.
Guest speaker and member of the local Climate Change Australia branch, Dave Smith, said he is very concerned about the future of our planet and wanted to educate people on just how serious the current situation is.
“Knowledge is power and curiosity is a wonderful thing, especially in relation to the world around us,” Mr Smith said.
“If we can comprehend and understand the science we can put things in perspective to see what is actually going on.
“And from that we can then see what we can do to help.”
Mr Smith completed a science degree in engineering, before embarking on a career in the computer industry, is now in his retirement and runs courses at U3A on philosophy, science and several other topics, said he has been concerned about global warming since the early 1960s.
“Learning about the environment is so important and learning about what needs to happen to stop the effects is something everyone should be interested in,” he said.
