Some years ago, as president of the then Manning Valley Beef Week committee, I organised a meeting with the presidents of the Taree and Wingham show societies to suggest they should consider the idea of combining to bring about a regional showground for the area.

The idea was quietly rejected.
I believe it is time Comboyne, Camden Haven, Gloucester, Nabiac, Taree, Wauchope and Wingham show societies came together and looked to the future by planning for a regional showground.
There will, no doubt, be many arguments put forward as to why this shouldn’t happen. One of the arguments will be the loss of revenue to each town if they don’t hold their annual show or rodeo and, of course, there is the ever present parochialism in each area.
I feel these arguments are far outweighed by the continual scramble for government grants to maintain the ever ageing facilities to remain within the bounds of occupational health and safety regulations.
A regional showground for the area, I believe, would attract Federal Government monetary support.
So people, thinking caps on and come up with how this can be done, not why it can’t be done, and where a modern regional showground, with conference rooms etc. could be located.
